Our History
Liberty Christian School is an interdenominational school serving preschool through 12th grades at two campuses in Anderson, IN. Founded in 1976, Liberty Christian is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International.
Liberty Christian School was established through a committee of people from the community who met to plan and pray for more than a year. In September 1976, there were 24 students in K-4th grade in a building owned by the Church of the Brethren on McKinley Street. The school had 4 full-time teachers, including Gwelda Walker, who volunteered to be the school’s first principal for 3 years, without compensation. Between 1977 and 1979, Liberty added grades 5-8 and a preschool class and grew into two additional buildings–one offered by the South Meridian Church of God and another by the Mounds Baptist Church. In 1981, Liberty purchased the former Fall Creek Heights School on South Rangeline Road for $40,000 and added a ninth gade. Liberty purchased what had been Anderson School Corporation’s Washington Elementary School on Columbus Ave. in 1982 for $81,000. In subsequent years, the school added grades and celebrated its first commencement–with three graduates, all of whom went on to college– in 1985. In 2000, Liberty purchased the Hillcrest property from the United Auto Workers’ Local 662 for $785,000. After refurbishing with help from volunteers, the building opened for the start of the 2002 school year.

Biblical Lifestyle Statement
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin of any kind, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10)
We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be rebuked and are not in accordance with Scripture.
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as either biologically male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen. 1:26-27.)
We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union for life, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4.)
We believe that any form of sexual immorality (such as adultery within marriage, consensual sexual intercourse between two persons not married to each other, homosexual behavior, and use of pornography) is sinful and harmful. (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10, 18)
We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Liberty Christian School as a biblical role model to the students of Liberty Christian School, their families, and the community, it is our expectation that all persons employed by Liberty Christian School in any capacity support in word and action this statement on a biblical lifestyle. (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14-16; 1 Thess. 5:22.)
