Elementary Curriculum Overview
Bible Class
In elementary grades we use Purposeful Design Bible curriculum to help students recognize that ultimate truth is found in God’s Word. Students learn that God loves everyone and that everyone needs to come to a saving faith in Jesus. Through Bible stories and biblical principles, students learn what it means to be a follower of Christ. As a part of our Bible curriculum, students memorize and recite scripture on a regular basis.
Math
Students in grades 1-6 master foundational math skills using the Saxon Math curriculum. Concepts from every math strand are woven together and connected throughout the year. Saxon Math scaffolds instruction of each concept and continues to review information introduced earlier. This approach allows students to develop mastery of skills and become real-world problem solvers. In addition, students use the online programs from IXL Math and Xtra Math to enhance their learning.
Reading Language Arts
Through a wide range of materials and resources, students are taught a comprehensive approach to language arts. Phonics, spelling, word study, grammar/usage, writing, and reading are included in our language arts program. Lower grades use the Orton-Gillingham method as a foundation for phonics and beginning reading. Upper grades experience integrated language arts through Purposeful Design curriculum.
Social Studies
With support from Abeka curriculum, students are taught events of history through a biblical worldview. Students study our communities, state, and country, as well as world history. Geography skills are developed through extensive map work.
Science
Through Purposeful Design’s inquiry-based curriculum, students receive a hands-on approach to science, while developing their critical thinking skills. Students learn the processes and language of science that is fully integrated with a biblical worldview. NSES and NGSS standards are met in each lesson of this curriculum.
Specials
Each week students participate in Physical Education, Art, Music, Library, and Media classes. In addition, students may be in the elementary band and/or elementary choir.
